What to Do When You Have a Panic Attack

What to Do When You Have a Panic Attack?

Stop me if this sounds at all familiar.

Your heart is racing, palms sweaty, and your head is starting to feel like you’re deep, deep underwater. There’s a tightness all over your body, starting just as a bit of a pinch – something like you’ve put on a too tight sweater – but it’s rapidly closing in on you. You can literally feel the air in the room beginning to conspire against you, to thicken and warm up considerably. It’s tough to breathe, and if you can’t breathe, you’re going down for the count. Against everything else and no matter what happens, you’ve got to keep breathing. It’s getting harder, things are starting to speed up, you’re losing control. Got. To. Keep. Breathing. Things are rushing by and feeling like they are in slow motion at the exact same time, but it barely registers. You’ve got to get out – you know you need to get out. I. Need. To. Get . Out. Where doesn’t matter so much as the fact that you just need to get away. Eyes darting across the room at high speed you’re trying to find a way out of this horrible situation. You need to get out, you need to get out, you need to get out…
